KWF Update August 29th

Firstly, we would like to apologise for not mentioning Julia Berry as our landlady in the original leaflet drop. This was an oversight and we hope this will be taken with the sincerity that we all feel. We would also like to express our sympathy that the closure of the Three Horseshoes on the 2nd October is due to Health reasons and we wish Julia well with her treatment and recovery.

A very successful meeting of the KWF steering group was held on Thursday 24th August to discuss the campaign in detail. Probably the most significant issue discussed was the outcome of a survey undertaken on behalf of the group by the Plunkett Foundation. Following some discussion it was decided that representatives of the group would meet with Julia and Gerry to bring to their attention, what we believe, were strong grounds for placing the Three Horseshoes back on the market. At the meeting the group offered to share the results of its questionnaire and volunteered the use of the KWF website and Facebook page to help with marketing. Early indications are that data collected from the questionnaire demonstrates overwhelming community support for the KWF agenda, to keep a working pub in our village. This would be of material significance for any potential buyer, helping to drive up interest in the business and, hopefully, lead to a speedy sale to an enthusiastic new owner

Unfortunately, both Gerry and Julia did not accept our grounds for remarketing the Three Horseshoes and declined our offer of assistance. We are currently awaiting the full results from the questionnaire before exploring our next steps. The KWF steering group will meet again on the 31st August

In the meantime, we will of course maintain a good relationship and dialogue with Julia and Gerry, continue to build support for the campaign and prepare for future options. To this end, you may have seen members of the steering group visiting homes in the village on Sunday morning. They distributed over 200 copies of the survey, encouraging residents to fill out the fact finding questionnaire. This is a key component of our campaign; we need as many responses as possible and we would be grateful for your opinions.

If for any reason you have not received or seen the questionnaire then please let us know via email

The survey remains open until Sunday 3rd September

Many thanks for all your interest and support and please let’s ‘Keep Wistow Flowing’

Best regards,

KWF Steering Group
